Junior Felix

  • The fastest Jay I ever saw.
  • Had a wide stance when he first came up.
  • Hit an inside-the-park grand slam at Fenway (possibly with a sore ankle).
  • Homered in his first major-league at-bat. (Was it on his first pitch?)
  • On throws to the infield, would make four javelin pumps and run the ball in 15 feet. By then, the runners had advanced.
  • Widely believed to be older than he claimed to be.
  • Got engaged, and let his bride-to-be pick the wedding day, which turned out to be right in the middle of the playoffs. Felix seemed unconcerned about the potential conflict. Fortunately, the Jays didn't make the postseason that year.
